Project Recap

Here's a summary of all the projects I've done up till now. This covers about half a year of misc. projects. If I had photos of all of them, this post would be a lot longer I assure you! Credit for each pattern can be found at the end of the description. Photos and yarn babble after the jump :)

Crochet

Here are some of the projects I've done up until now! I picked up crochet super quick thanks to some preliminary teaching years ago from my great aunt, current help and advice from my mum, and some lovely beginner patterns by Ana Paula Rimoli.

Baby Octopus

My very first crochet project, done entirely in the round. I started and stopped and ripped things out many, many times, but eventually this little guy took shape!

--Pattern from Amigurumi World by Ana Paula Rimoli

Rainbow Jellyfish

One of my favourites out of all the little animals I've made. The rainbow colouring didn't photograph very well, unfortunately, but the yarn I used was this lovely fine white stuff with some pastel rainbow colours thrown in. Perfect for a jellyfish! This little guy came out great.

--Pattern from Ana Paula Rimoli's blog, found here.

Duckling

This guy I made as a gift for my friend, and she really like it. I think he's quite cute.

--Pattern from Amigurumi World by Ana Paula Rimoli

I made quite a few little Amigurumi animals, and gave a lot of them out as gifts. Cute, quick and cheap, and everyone loved them! Awesome projects for anyone new to crochet.

If you are looking for some good crochet patterns for amigurumi animals, I highly recommend Ana Paula Rimoli's books. They're clear, thorough, and easy to follow. There are quite a few patterns in Amigurumi World, and I can't wait to have a look at her newest book Amigurumi Two to see what cute littler creatures are inside :)

Knitting

I picked up knitting fairly quickly as well, thanks to various youtube tutorials and online instructions. It was a bit tricky at first to find good instructions for lefties, but I found some really good little videos by cyberseams on youtube, and things just took off from there!

Facecloth

My very first knitted project. It was done in a flat panel, starting with a few stitches and increasing up to the full width, then decreasing down to the bottom corner. Even a lightly trained eye can tell that the top half was where I started, and I got better at knitting as I progressed through the cloth! So it came out in a diamond shape even though it was supposed to be square, but I don't mind.

--pattern found here.

Daisy Cushion

My second knitted project! This cushion is done flat panel for the center and the petals, shaping achieved through increasing and decreasing. Another good project for beginners, though I found the pattern a bit hard to follow. Once I wrote out the instructions row by row, however, it was fine. I have them written out on a sheet of paper and I check off each row as I go along. Otherwise I keep forgetting which one I'm on! Obviously I don't pay enough attention to what I'm doing. I blame that on the fact that I always knit while watching tv, but oh well.

My god though, it took me forever to learn how to purl properly. I ripped out the first half of that center about ten times I'm sure, until I finally figured out how to purl correctly. I don't know where I got all that patience from, but once I successfully learned how to purl it was all downhill from there.

I plan on making two cushions, and I'm currently halfway through the first center for the second cushion. What you see here is one center and all the petals of my first cushion, all knitted and ready to stitch together, with weights to keep the center from curling up. First I have to weave in all of the trailing bits though, which may take a while with all those pieces.

--pattern found here.

I'll post pictures of the finished cushions, which I'm sure will look very cute together. The petals of the second cushion I plan on doing in pink, variegated as well like the first ones.

Whew, long post! It's kind of fitting though, since it covers about half a year of misc. projects. The next ones probably won't be quite as long, though I do love to talk ;)

Cross-posted to weloveamigurumi and novice_knitters

Hello!

Welcome to my humble abode! Please watch your step, or else you might trip over a yarn ball ;)

Last summer I picked up crochet, then during winter I taught myself some knitting as well. While surfing around looking for free patterns, I came across a lot of knit/crochet blogs, and they seem pretty fun. So I shall document my adventures in yarn-land for all of you to see!

I also love doing misc. crafts and baking, so I'll occasionally post my doings in that area too.
